Hong Kong is better! It gets so dark here in the winter... I would love to see lights on more buildings - especially now that they have such energy efficient options... When you look at many of the new asian skylines the lighting is incredible... Shanghai is awesome!

yeah - Hong Kong is better - the new 2000 ft. tower in Shanghai has that amazing almost TV like top that is about 300 feet high... The technology is really amazing...

Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)
Do we know what's happening with the auto shop there? Or is that outside of phase 2?
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)
Apparently nothing. The portion of the site marked Phase 2 only goes up to the western edge of the auto shop parking lot. The area behind the shop is marked Phase 3.

Yes, but they have drilled for pollution testing on the auto shop property so that makes me think it would be in play for phase 3 also.
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)
Yeah, I'm sure they'll try to get that site into Phase 3 as well, and get 1st Ave frontage for that building.
But if another Izzy's/Stonebridge situation ended up happening there, that would be cool too.

I live in the Cobalt (but don't think I'm your friend)....I'm not overjoyed with the lights. I agree they look nice as a building feature, but having them shining in my eyes when I wake up at 3AM isn't so pleasant. The bright white ones at the base of the tower lighting the sidewalk/entry are actually the more annoying ones. Would be nice if they turned off after midnight or something. At least the new tower at the US Bank site will probably eventually block them! Some friends that live in the Cobalt building were complaining about the lights, I gave them an "ahhh ummm yeahhh sucks..." while thinking in my head, Looks great!
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)
That's fair. I've noticed the colored lights on the tower weren't on recently. Turning the lights off at 11 or midnight would be a good compromise. Most cities that have prominent lighting on their skyscrapers have a policy like that.I live in the Cobalt (but don't think I'm your friend)....I'm not overjoyed with the lights. Minneapolis skyline goes dark at midnight. I'd expect Nord Haus to do the same, it'd be pretty weird and inconsiderate if it didn't.

Is this by law? Target Plaza's lights seem to stay on all night, as do the Nic on 5th's. A couple weeks ago the IDS also stopped shutting off at night altogether.Minneapolis skyline goes dark at midnight. I'd expect Nord Haus to do the same, it'd be pretty weird and inconsiderate if it didn't.
I remember five or so years ago the IDS used to shut off at 11, Wells Fargo at 12, and Capella at 1.

I seem to recollect that they turn the lights off earlier during peak bird migration season.
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)
Used to live in view of the Target lights. Definitely did not turn off at midnight. Pretty sure they were on all night.
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)
Currently live in view of the Target lights. Have occasional bouts of insomnia. They're on all night.
Which is perfectly fine, IMO. The Target display is significantly dimmer than other lighting displays. From my bedroom window (looking south from 9th and Marquette) the WCCO sign, the internal blue lighting from Orchestra Hall, and even stray light from the streetlights are all brighter than the Target building.

Don't people have shades on their windows?
Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)
Shades, yes, but they aren't solid blackout shades. More of a black mesh that allows views outside when closed on a sunny day. Also allows the blue/white lights from NordHaus into my bedroom at night. The billboard at 4th and Central can be annoying too if it's a light color. Fortunately it's now an almost black Chipotle ad. I do sometimes sleep with a blindfold mask on as I find it does make a difference. I chose to live in the city and don't have an expectation of total darkness. I was, however, surprised to come home from a trip last weekend to find new blue and white lights in my line of sight as I tried to sleep.Don't people have shades on their windows?
I actually think they may have turned them down a bit in the last day or so. For sure the white lights at the base of the building were a softer yellow last night and the blue seemed slightly dimmer. Or maybe I'm just getting accustomed to it. I do like the look of the lights, but was surprised when they just appeared. Would like to know if they were part of the original building design when approved? Eventually the rather ugly building at 333 Hennepin will probably block most of them. Residents there will certainly have them shining in their windows! I wonder if they are visible at all to the interior of the NordHaus units? I'm not sure I'd want a bright blue LED glow around my windows all night if I lived there.
Here’s my daytime view of NordHaus through my shades:

Have people started moving into the tower yet? Didn't see any lights on at all tonight.

It appear the tower for phase II has been reduced to something less than a tower. (I wasn't sure to put this in the debated thread there or here feel free to move)

Because I already had it typed out before SurlyLHT beat me to the link:
Now called SP2 and only 11 stories/ 134' in height. Still a massive 331 units, now occupying entire remaining site, and hilariously leaving auto shop intact.
