There's no way they're tearing the skyway down. Extending the system northward to cross over 4th to the Ritz block has to be a high priority for Opus. You can't develop a large tower in this city without good skyway connections. I would guess that this current block is just a "stepping stone" to get the Ritz block going.

Given that they made the panels black in reality, I'm sure that's not the actual set-in-stone implementation of the development. I am guessing it's just a picture to show future tenants what the development will look like completed in a general sense.

It also shows two-way car traffic on Marquette, despite the fact that southbound lanes are bus-only. I'd guess it's an illustration-only image, with the more unattractive realities of the location removed for advertising purposes.

The cars between 4th and 5th on Marquette all seem to be driving in the middle of the street, too. Hah, the little details of these renders. It also shows two-way car traffic on Marquette, despite the fact that southbound lanes are bus-only. I'd guess it's an illustration-only image, with the more unattractive realities of the location removed for advertising purposes.
I use the LRT platform at 5th and Nicollet daily, and I'm really looking forward to both this and 510 Marquette being finished, or at least finished with the exterior. Right now waiting on that platform feels like standing the middle of a construction area, especially with Soo Line installing scaffolding around the building for more exterior work.

From the renderings it looks like they will put some color on it and some more dteail
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
Yes, when that happens it will look better. The project looks best viewing it on the southwest corner of Nicollet and Fifth. The portly and boxy shape of the tower, however, is the biggest issue I have with this project. It's so corporate looking and unimaginative. Hope Opus does something more daring on the Ritz block or Nicollet Mall as the premier street of Minneapolis is toast. From the renderings it looks like they will put some color on it and some more dteail
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
I bet it will look great when the sky is purple.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
yeah I don't think the color is happening only because when the vents have been installed they were one shade of grey and then when they have been finished they are a darker color grey
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
Pretty sure the color is happening--for about a week, they did have some vertical color (shades of red) bars in one of the unfinished sections, though it was removed.

Saw the red too some time back on the 5th street side. They will be putting in colored bars/panels but not quite as much as some of the earlier renders. Also, there were some vertical louvers on the Nicollet Mall side in renderings, but not sure if they will actually be part of the finished project.

I also saw the color, and I stand outside of it every day...Pretty sure the color is happening--for about a week, they did have some vertical color (shades of red) bars in one of the unfinished sections, though it was removed.
I don't think we have any reason to believe there won't be color, really. They just have no reason to be adding it to the facade so soon.

It's a process that takes time. They have to install the underlay material first. Then they may be waiting for it to be produced and shipped by the manufacturer etc. Noticed the crown is now being painted black. Can't wait for the white neon bands to be installed on top. That will also add some pizazz to the building at night.I don't think we have any reason to believe there won't be color, really. They just have no reason to be adding it to the facade so soon.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
Was by today, there are plenty of areas where there is underlayment that will be cover. How colorful the material we will probably not know until they get other work done that could damage the materials if put up first.

The tower crane is coming down this morning.

There was talk that once this tower crane came down that work on 4Marq would start or they would use the same tower crane but just move its location - hoping either is the case.

They still have excavation and a lot of concrete work before you could put a tower crane there. I'm guessing at least a month even if they got started today. I'd say it's more likely that the crane would go over to the Wells Fargo tower seeing as how the base for the crane is already in place.

Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
re: crane. it's a moot point now, but there is no way that Opus and Mortensen would do that with a crane. Furthermore, the Opus crane was specifically positioned to allow work and a crane for 4Marq to proceed. Of course it turned out the 4Marq project was delayed until now...
