Another empty storefront in LynLake. Milio's has closed.
The sign on their door makes some kind of reference to finding a new location in the area, but not 100% clear from the way it was phrased. In the meantime, they invite you to visit their 44-France and East Franklin locations. Honestly, Milio's should just fold...they lost the battle between the 3 copycat relatives of Jimmy John's, Erbert & Gerberts. Time to give it up.

Weird how the hippest new corner of town - LynLake -suddenly has three empty corner storefronts.

Heading by here this evening, the Iron Door is now open. Big Buck Hunter was prominent, but otherwise looked like a pretty low key spot.

Cowboy Jack's seems to be slowly coming along. They are still working to get the recycled cream brick onto the front of the building. At this rate the patio seating will come it great at their opening in December.

Cheapo has signs up indicating they are moving to 2600 Nicollet. Late Aug / early September.

Yep. A win win win all around. Opens up a development site in Uptown (apparently including a large retailer), further enhances the booming 26th & Nicollet area, keeps Cheapo in the neighborhood (for another 5-10 years or whenever they become fully obsolete), and replaces one of those predatory loan places

I am so excited about this! Nicollet needs a little more retail - lots of great food and now a fun place to hang out! SO great!

Cheapo won't become fully obsolete because records are making a comeback. So it's actually keeping them in the neighborhood for a fairly long time.

It's only a matter of time until all of the record stores in the city are consolidated into the Whitter Record Store Ghetto.

LOL, I've thought that for 20 years now, but they just keep hangin in there. With the new record revival, we have another 5 - 10 years added.

LOL. A reference to the sobriety/rehab house concentration kerfuffle?

On my way to church today I saw scaffolding and plastic wrap up on the upper stories of the Flafal King building. With the plastic up, I'm thinking they are going to sandblast the paint off the building and exposed and tuck-point the brick there on the corner of Lyndale and Lake. Does anyone know, did that building get sold? I know at one time it was up for sale.

Unfortunately I don't think they're getting rid of the paint. A few days before the scaffolding went up, there were a few paint swatches up on the wall. Looks like they're aiming for a light sage green or something in that range.

That would make sense that they have plastic up to keep the dirt off the fresh paint. Too bad, I'm not a fan of badly painted brick.

Was having a drink at Iron Door on Sunday afternoon and one of the managers was bartending. Chalk this up as a rumor, but, he said they had been told that a Chipotle was going in on that corner when they asked the crew putting up the scaffolding.

It could certainly be successful there. The one at 26th and Hennepin is overcrowded.
