Saint Paul - General Topics

Maybe the Snarshall Starbucks will buy it so they can relocate to a site that can actually accommodate a drive-thru.
I'm only half joking.

Exempting new construction would of course make redevelopment much more likely, but there are some projects proceeding anyway, such as Lexington/James.thespeedmccool wrote: March 10th, 2022, 1:59 pm I doubt anyone's going to jump on redeveloping this parcel with the rent control issue still up in the air.
If Highland Bridge and others are pumping the brakes on their already planned and approved developments, how are we to expect that anyone would be interested in redeveloping a parcel from scratch?
I hope Mayor Carter gets on that new constuction exemption soon.

On top of a parking ramp. Well okay then.
Housing on top of every parking ramp!
I do think it’s is a fine spot, there will be some pretty good views of the river here.

Isn't the life of a parking garage around 30 years? Is it wise to build a tower on a 20 year old parking structure?

Not a big fan of it having 50 surface parking spots when it’s right on the Green Line.

It's an existing lot so no net gain at least. I asked them about expanding onto that space, but due to the complicated financing with this project that would likely be a phase II, after the tax credit expiration (like the Buzza Building in Uptown.)

We've been discussing the St. Thomas athletics facilities in a couple of different threads. While they're still talking about locating new baseball and softball facilities at the southern end of the Ford redevelopment, this showed up on Twitter:

Sorry! It's displaying correctly for me.
In case you can't read it, the St. Thomas hockey coach indicated that an on-campus arena is "real close."

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
So back to the content of the tweet, where the heck would they wedge in an arena on campus? The very southwest corner (Mississippi River Blvd & Goodrich)? Perhaps the corner of Cretin & Selby since the new baseball/softball fields will be at Highland Bridge?

I think the south athletic fields next to the Anderson ramp would fit the arena nicely. Parking ramp could be connected. Soccer could move up next to the football stadium.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
It will be interesting to see where they propose it. My suspicion is that St. Thomas is going to view hockey as perhaps their premier sport after the move to D-1. Football has long held this spot, but unless/until they move up to a better conference and build a much larger football stadium, they're limited in their growth potential.
