Skip ahead to 3:10:05 for a comment/story about on-street parking regulations. Resident states that Edina only permits on-street parking for up to 6 hours at a time!
Now, many outer suburbs have overly restrictive parking regulations, especially during winter. Most outer suburbs ban overnight parking between Nov.1 and April 1. A handful of suburbs simply ban overnight parking year round! But 6 hours max? Especially in Edina where older neighborhoods have smaller garages, some alley areas (people tend to park on street and go in the front door of their house), along with busier areas that no doubt generate street parking overnight.

All cities have "abandoned vehicle" ordinances, which prohibit vehicles from parking on-street, unmoved for longer periods of time (Mpls is 72 hours, Richfield 48 hours for example). But 6 hours in Edina? I can't believe that is actually on the books, unless it is universally unenforced.

I'd say parking ordinances like that are generally unenforced, except for the overnight bans in suburbs during the winter. I know we've left our van out front and not used it for days on end, with no one ever bothering to call the police. I would bet in tighter parking areas like the Wedge there are many cars that do the same (snow tends to reveal this). My sister used to live on Wooddale in Edina, we'd park out front or on a side street all day (even overnight if they had a party or the two weddings I can remember us staying there afterward) and never had a problem.

My parents and their neighbors in maple grove have experienced multiple cars getting towed over night, not in the winter. It's total bogus. How do you have guests over with a standard driveway?

Huh. Density in Fridley just 4 blocks from the Northstar station. But still with surface parking and an auto oriented design. Also, 1 out of the 2 times I crossed over 61st and University I was nearly slammed by a Cadillac (she was on her phone of course, didn't even stop after I had to jump out of the way at the last second). So maybe not the best place to walk around?

I mean it does increase density, but does it give the anti density crowd ammunition that density is ugly and imposing? Possibly? Those false cornices random purposeless massing jumbled materials

A planner from Fridley gave a presentation on this project at the MN APA conference last fall. They said the number one question (or hostile accusation) they got from residents and passers-by was if the building was 100% low-income housing. (It is not)

This should come as a surprise to none of us, but in the minds of a lot of people there is a perfect 1:1 correlation between density/apartments and low-income/crime/"those people"
