800 Washington Ave S (Guthrie Ramp liner parcel)
Re: Guthrie Ramp Block Vacant Site - (800 Washington Avenue)
I'm very comfortable with that building. Maybe a few touch ups, but basic design is very solid.

Agree. It's quite nice, and I like the Chicago side in particular. Love the use of Corten steel. I like this site because it's so narrow which lends itself to creating a more unique design. It'll be interesting to see what Sherman comes up with here. Not sure how Pinstripes can fit into such a narrow space.I'm very comfortable with that building. That looks pretty good!

I like the look of Mortenson's proposal. Will be nice to see a rendering of Sherman's plans, although the Pinstripes proposal is not a plus in my opinion. Chain entertainment venues are not what creates a sense of unique place.

Re: Guthrie Ramp Block Vacant Site - (800 Washington Avenue)
They have a tremendous monopoly and are designing at least 75% of the new projects going up downtown. On some ways that's fine , because they're a good firm and can design a great building when given the opportunity. However, there's a certain stylistic monotony with so many of their projects looking similar. That said , this project and The Radisson Red look different and are adding some variety.ESG is the architect.

Eh, I like that it is unique to the area though. Would it do well is the question? I think it could add some nice energy. Most proposals we have seen lately are apartments or hotels with faux upscale restaurants at the base, which is great to a degree...but a different use would be nice.I like the look of Mortenson's proposal. Got to agree with mnmike - I don't know how well Pinstripes would do, but there's a lot of monotony in the "6-story apartment with a restaurant and big, useless lobby on the ground level." This at least provides something that is different from what we've been seeing.

Minneapolis CPED tweeted a broken link to a pdf with 3 proposals. I asked them to update it, will post if I get word back.

If you're wondering who Saturday Properties is; it's owned by the former president on Greco, Brent Rogers. But that's all I've got.

All three are pitching hotels, per Bizjournals. This is what, the 3rd or 4th new hotel proposed this year? Kind of crazy TBH.

Yep, quite a few new rooms on the docket: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13& ... 290#p88290
And that's just Downtown. A handful in Bloomington, at least 3 in play in Downtown St. Paul too.
EDIT: Here's what Sherman's Pinstripes / Kimpton Hotel looks like: http://ow.ly/i/aVB3w/original

The coolest part of that rendering... traffic on Washington will be reversed, a la England! Kudos to them for being so bold with their plan.EDIT: Here's what Sherman's Pinstripes / Kimpton Hotel looks like:
Re: Guthrie Ramp Block Vacant Site - (800 Washington Avenue)
Lol WTF is up with the street in that rendering? Cars clearly going the wrong way, somehow washington became a one way, someone got a little lazy with that part.
Anyways I'm sure all three are going to be similar in scale and all have modern looking exteriors and nice amenities. So far I prefer sherman solely because Pinstripes would be a much more unique offering for downtown.

Are these supposed to be iconic or what?
Re: Guthrie Ramp Block Vacant Site - (800 Washington Avenue)
Nah this is just standard infill. Sad thing is I'd take any of these over what's proposed for 100 Hennepin.

Re: Guthrie Ramp Block Vacant Site - (800 Washington Avenue)
Splitting hairs, really. As the 100 Hennepin lot is owned by Ryan, who clearly doesn't see the value in going taller than 6 stories. Whether everyone on here loves it or hates it.Nah this is just standard infill. Sad thing is I'd take any of these over what's proposed for 100 Hennepin.
Re: Guthrie Ramp Block Vacant Site - (800 Washington Avenue)
No it's not the height that's at issue. It's the townhomes along most of Hennepin doing nothing for street activity, whereas these two proposals both have active uses along the entire street frontage. In Sherman's case we'd get a second level of restaurant too (the rooftop is cool but doesn't matter to the pedestrian).
