A number of them are in suburban locations, so I'm not surprised.

FYI Woodbury Lakes is next to the City Place development, not in the City Place development itself. I think it's interesting that Portillo's and now Alamo Drafthouse both chose to Woodbury for their first stab at the Twin Cities market.

Portillo's is a mostly suburban chain; they have a couple of locations in downtown Chicago, but the suburbs are where they do most of their business. Woodbury made a lot of sense for a first location, and being right next to the main driving route to/from Chicago didn't hurt. The Maple Grove and Apple Valley locations make sense too; I expect both of those to do well.

AD probably chose it because it was an easy place to build a new theater as opposed to buying and doing major renovations on an existing one.

City Place adjacent (and mimicking...) You have to admit there is a lot of activity in this area of Woodbury recently.

New retail buildings would replace Woodbury’s Craft Beer and Kitchen site

The project, named Commons Plaza, would replace the 21-year-old bar and eatery with two multi-tenant buildings, a larger standalone building and a drive thru-equipped coffee shop.

The brick design of the buildings would resemble architecture found up the road at CityPlace, said Woodbury Planner Mike Mrosla at the Monday night planning commission meeting. “This brings a new precedent to the area,” he said.

Just read a F&C article about new apartments (“The Preserve”) at CityPlace, so I took a look at their web site to see how this “City” “Place” was laid out. No point in leaving a comment, though, as I see you all have been saying this for half a decade.

I'm assuming "Office Land" and "Multi-Family Land" are theme parks?

What a lost opportunity. Wonder if those new apartments will be surrounded by a sea of parking too?

Is it odd that my biggest problem is the missed opportunity to connect Hudson Rd to Hudson Rd? That kind of thing always annoys the ^$* out of me

When you have an aerial site plan with color codes for "shop" "work" "dine" "stay" "live," you're not mixed use.

“The name City Place articulates our original vision of bringing an urban development to this prime suburban location, providing complementary uses to the existing office building while preserving the places to work focus of the site,” Juan DeAngulo, managing principal with Elion Partners, said in a press release.
