Pro: sounds awesome (sincerely)
Con: doesn't instill a lot of confidence that anything will get built on the empty lot anytime soon

Yeah... I mean, it's better than a blank white wall, sure, but I guarantee this is going to lead to a totally unnecessary uproar when that lot comes up for redevelopment.

It doesn't sound like something designed to be a temporary placeholder.

Hey Goldman Sachs, did you hear we have a high growth rate of downtown residential properties? I hear you guys also like that stuff too huh?The $50,000 project was commissioned by the building’s owner, Goldman Sachs, to help the city revitalize its downtown Cultural District.

Lot is owned by Baker Investments / Downtown Auto Park: http://www.downtownautopark.com/
Sadly, I would venture a guess that Goldman Sachs got some kind of guarantee from them that they wouldn't sell for development for X years, in order to ensure that the mural would be "worth it."

Not necessarily. Money talks. It always has and always will. If there's a serious developer looking to purchase this property and build something new - a $50,000 mural won't stop that. The reality is that either the economics aren't there for this property to make sense to build on yet - or Baker Investments isn't looking to sell.Lot is owned by Baker Investments / Downtown Auto Park: http://www.downtownautopark.com/

Regardless, this little lot is hardly the most urgent one in need of infill at that intersection. I'd MUCH prefer to see something happen a block west of there first! That empty lot adjacent to the LRT platform is disgusting!

Cars are people too, Someone think of the gas pumps!Bobby and Steve's still needs the city to approve their ultimate plans for the site, which are collectively intended to make the area easier for vehicles to maneuver. The demolition of 1207 Washington and some other structures will allow for easier access to gas pumps, as well as a widening of the narrow back alley to 12th Avenue.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
It was apparently John Griffith who bought the property. I'd be nice to start seeing more people like him in the renovation/development game.

Griffith said it could be suitable for a small office, and that he has considered a small brewpub in the space. The building's days as a late-night drinking hole are most likely over, though, he said.

God, why does it always have to be f'ing Dylan?150' x 60' mural of Bob Dylan commissioned at 5th & Hennepin.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Saw the start of the mural when I was catching the green line at the warehouse station. Going a lot faster that I thought a mural would go up.

Moved the discussion of the parking lots at Hennepin & 10th to here: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13& ... =80#p96914
Not that it was off-topic here or anything, but we have a dedicated topic so might as well use it. Plus between Bobby & Steve's and the Dylan mural, this thread is already pretty busy.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Sad to see the AIA's focus on downtown rather than the city as a whole. Downtown is great, but there's also immense wealth (relative to public liability) generated by the city's neighborhoods. We need to farm those neighborhoods to grow our tax base, in addition to focusing just on the downtown farm.AIA MN interview with Kjersti Monson, Director of Long-Range Planning at CPED

So this isn't actually about downtown, but since the programs are all Downtown in the Crystal Court, can anyone that goes there see if there's any info on the L&H Station Project? A saw a tweet about the city that included a rendering of it so I'm wondering if there's any info about it there.

In the responsive but not terribly helpful category: yes.So this isn't actually about downtown, but since the programs are all Downtown in the Crystal Court, can anyone that goes there see if there's any info on the L&H Station Project? There is a display about it. I looked at the pretty pictures, but that's about all I can tell you.
