Honestly don't care so much what happens to the interior of the building(s), but if the loggia and elevated walkway facing the river could be reopened (were they ever opened in the first place?), that would be huge.

Tearing down that ugly ass ramp and turning it into a park/stairs/entrance/etc. might not be the #1 on the list of single biggest land use upgrades in DT but is sure isn't far off the top of that list.

Room for both a residential tower and a grand staircase connecting the two levels, similar to what North Loop Green is building.

Under the main USPS building there's also an arcade that's fenced off. Activating that space with food trucks and other temporary vendors could be an option if there was a slightly higher permanent residential population nearby.

Perhaps a complimentary Art Deco residential tower could be erected within the building. The rest could be turned into a Chelsea Market style experience.

It's been discussed before in this thread, but I've always thought moving the Minneapolis Farmer's Market to this site would be cool turning both exterior and interior spaces into stalls for vendors akin to the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Adding new residential towers to the site + better connections to the river are a no-brainer. Finally, the street frontage on the Post Office building along 1st Street S. is pretty sterile. I wonder whether there would be a way to punch some retail at street level to better connect the Mill District and North Loop.

I went to a downtown panel discussion last week that Goodman and Frey spoke at. Among other things one of Goodman's parting desires was to "tear down that damn post office ramp" and Frey echoed it too. I didn't know it was such a priority at the city - good to see.

They better keep the plan to have a gondola cross the river and enter the west side of the post office for its downtown terminus.

This idea (rightfully) gets laughed at as a serious form of transit and public infrastructure and it's definitely not something government should get involved in financially at all.

But I still think it would be really cool and have some really great views of both NE and DT. Especially if the NE terminus could be part of a bigger redevelopment of Riverplace building along Main between Hennepin and the stairs. Tack on access to a public attraction in a re-imagined post office and you have the making of new signature river side attraction.

Downtown’s population grew by 3% to 58,408

It's gonna grow by a lot next year as well. Between the Block One, O2, North Loop Green, Duffey 2.0, Strutwear, Northstar Center, and other projects, there are nearly 2,000 units of housing currently under construction which should all mostly be complete in the coming months. There is nothing coming after this, however, so at least the next couple reports after the next one should see a plateau.

All of those will take some time to fill. There will be office to housing conversions of the old republic and part of the century link building plus a few smaller ones but we will see a drop in big projects. Hopefully rates drop some this year and that gets developers rolling again
