Looks like Flodisco lives in my building!
Just moved in to the 18th floor! Loving my view of the neighborhood!

LPM put a Facebook post up today asking what people want to see in their retail space. It's kind of nice that they are reaching out to the community for ideas of who to approach.

Two comments so far. Both asking for Trader Joe's. Heh. Not that I disagree.

A combination Trader Joe's / Liquor Store / Charter School / Pawn Shop / Tesla Dealer / Lyft HQ wouldn't be controversial, would it?

Not sure if actually reaching out, or just one of those generic engaging Facebook posts made by someone at a social media agency that doesn't actually work with LPM.

(I've worked for one of those social media companies.)

Anyone that think there is enough space for a Trader Joe's is smoking some really good stuff. It would be better to put ideas that can actually fit into the space that they have available. Can't get true ideas when all you put forward are pipe dreams that don't fit. The old fitting a square peg in a round hole still applies.

I guess I'll retract my Wal-Mart idea then....

But it would fit if they tunneled it...

Tunneling, another crack smoking idea. This is MN, we can't even tunnel the SW without people screaming bloody murder.

Why not raze the SA and make a multi-level Trader Joe's? That would be something I could get behind. Have Lotus move across the street to where King & I Thai used to be? Yeah

Any links or anything I can substantiate that to? Or do you know the scope of the project so I can add it to my tracking tool?

Oh my bad I hadn't heard that. Where did you find that info? The Maryland must have figured they could make more money expanding their Sec8 housing.

Lotus could move to LPM although I bet the rent for that space would be much higher than where they currently are.

But if Magellan buys the building they are currently in and their lease isn't up, maybe they could come up with some sort of a deal? Not sure if these types of things happen or not, just a thought.

In other random Loring Park news, the old King and I Thai space is going to be reworked into more apartments:

I don't know if that was mentioned anywhere- I couldn't find it.
From another thread...

Looks like the end of the decision period was June 4th. I tried finding if it was approved with no luck. Anyone else know more?

I personally would love to see another restaurant go in there. Turning it into 15 more apartments doesn't do much to draw new developers to the neighborhood.

I think I remember this now.....it was such a small scale that I don't think I added it to my list, and this was likely when a lot of other larger-scale projects were being proposed left and right. I'll add it now, but like Flodisco says it's a drop in the already-large bucket of projects going on in Minneapolis, let alone downtown.
