Thanks, all, for coming to my defense.
Yes, it was said in jest.

Yup, I didn't catch the joking, and I appreciate everyone coming to the rescue of friend MNdible. It's a good thing to see.

Yeah, I got the humor and I'm usually the one complaining about stuff like this!
But then I know MNdible's posting history and know he's sensitive to racial issues. It was clearly meant as an outrageous satirical statement to skewer the predominant worldview.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Form work is starting on the 21st floor of the tower now. 12 to go...
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
21st of the tower portion, add a few more for the base and it comes out right...ish. I don't know how tall the base is.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
The base has a questionable number of floors, as it's a parking ramp aside from the ground floor. The tower rises 33 floors out of the base.21 and 12 does not equal 36
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Oh wow - I didn't think about that - so the building floor count doesn't include the parking ramp...
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
36 floors total. 376' feet will be the final height. The crane is topped at 319 feet right know. (Info from John a few pages back) so this tower will be almost 60 feet taller than the crane is now.

It's almost out of the frame already. That webcam is about to get much more boring. In a *very* good way
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

They can maybe zoom out a bit or pan up? Again, a good problem to have!

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
This is a huge addition, this building adds a lot to the skyline, by extending it further. But I really wish there weren't parking minimum standards so there wouldn't have to be this huge parking square at the block level.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
I'm pretty sure there aren't parking minimums for this because it's downtown, so Magellan built however much parking they thought they'd need. Makes sense that luxury apartments would need parking.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Do you know where I could look at the distribution of parking minimums?
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Yeah, I don't think this project has parking because someone told Magellan they had to. I think it has parking because a large percentage of people moving downtown still want to own a car and this area of town is incredibly tight on parking with most buildings around having neither underground nor off-street parking.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
It's basically because well-off suburbanites wanting to try city living don't want to go all carless cold turkey. Hell, when I moved to Downtown Columbus years ago I brought my car, but ditched it after getting a bike and finding I only really used the car for grocery runs since I was between a couple of popular neighborhoods just north and south of Downtown. Having a car in Loring Park just seems like a big non-sequitur outside of long commutes to the burbs: Whittier and Uptown are a quick ride (bike or bus) south and NE is just across the river.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
How many floors left to pour on this project??
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Last I counted it was around 24-25 (including base). I'd say 10-or-so remaining. Have they slowed down a bit, maybe, since the weather turned cooler?
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
My buddy who works in TPS sends me a pic every friday from his window. I would say they are going about 2 floors a week now.
