My brother lived in one of those houses. They are barely held together with vinyl siding and do not have proper foundations. Good riddance.

It's also great to hear that many of these units will be for families. This building could accommodate many Somali families who would otherwise need to commute and park to visit Karmel Plaza!

Schatzlein Saddle Shop closing its doors. Current generation is retiring and nobody else is going to take it on. A Lake Street institution!

Didn't know that their current store is the third building they've been in on that stretch of Lake Street.

The former Fremont and hammer and sickle spaces will/have become two new restaurants. The breakfast Klub and Fire house

BreakfastKlub celebrates "Minnesota culture, namely Prince and the Minnesota Vikings" by serving "Southern breakfast items such as chicken and waffles, grits and various French toasts."

My thought exactly.
I mean, great that things are opening, but the ‘gimmicky-mess’ of that concept almost sounds like something out of the Onion.

I think the bigger question is if they have good food. If it's good and gimmicky, I don't care. Hammer & Sickle and The Fremont had very lack-luster menus. The several times we frequented both places, it's been very slow and the food mediocre That's far worse, IMO than being gimmicky. Time will tell.tedlanda2571 wrote: September 18th, 2022, 9:01 pmMy thought exactly.

The Fremont lasted due to there food and drink deals.
If you give people a reason to go like good food, cheap food and drinks ect they will come. Glad to see the spaces wont sit empty for long.

I have a feeling that these two places are just new concepts from the same owners as Hammer and Fremont. I have no solid evidence to substantiate this other than that they're side-by-side and they're both going to be open to 2am.

Sort of, Suh still holds the lease, but recently decided to retire:MattW wrote: September 20th, 2022, 12:15 pm I have a feeling that these two places are just new concepts from the same owners as Hammer and Fremont. Located at 1300 Lagoon Ave., Hammer & Sickle opened in 2013 and The Fremont opened in 2015. The local restaurateur behind both concepts, Gene Suh, recently decided to retire and replace them with something else.
The building's owner, Ackerberg, enlisted Caspian Group brokers Marshall Nguyen, Jay Mawas and Winnie Patterson to secure new concepts for the spaces. Their role was facilitating a partnership agreement between Suh, who still holds a lease for the spots, and Marquise Walker, who's leading the creation and management of BreakfastKlub and Fire House.
Helming the kitchens for both is DeMarco Cavil, a personal chef who's cooked for celebrities and professional athletes, including Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Wild players.

The implication there is that the Vikings he cooked for were the actual Vikings and not the football team. Which would be kind of cool if so.

It would be kind of cool, but if that's the case, I give these places only 6 months.Didier wrote: September 20th, 2022, 10:15 pm The implication there is that the Vikings he cooked for were the actual Vikings and not the football team. Which would be kind of cool if so.
I'm just not sure how large a market exists for porridge, dried fish, and warm mead. ...even in Minnesota.
