As far as I can determine, I took this photo in the hallway through the JC Penny / Syndicate building (now demolished). I don't think this section was in the Soo Line area, but I could be wrong of course. The sign indicates the Thorpe Building (demolished for a parking ramp), the F&M Savings Bank (Westin Minneapolis), and the National City Bank Building (510 Marquette).

I stopped and took this photo because I thought this section of skyway looked like a hallway in the Death Star.

I took this photo from the top of the Foshay tower observation deck in 1988 of the Norwest Center (Wells Fargo tower) finishing construction.

For this photo of the Minneapolis skyline I went to the top of the Moos Health Sciences tower at the University of Minnesota. I managed to capture the perfect moment of when the sunlight broke through the clouds.

I stood on the newly completed lawn of Lincoln Center (now 333 S Seventh St) in 1987 for this view of construction of 150 S 5th St. This view is not possible now due to the presence of the Capella tower now on the site of the parking lot straight ahead.

And to think that someday most people might forget about that sheet music on the wall at 10th and Marquette.

I just thought it would be fun to look at the old cars. From the skyway over 7th St at Marquette in 1988.

Why doesn't Minneapolis have a Carson's? The company that bought out Donaldson's could at least be nice and put in one of their stores here..

We do, but they're called Herberger's in MN: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bon-Ton

With locations at Southdale and Rosedale AND Midway (yep, it's still in business somehow), they're perhaps the least likely regional dept. store chain to open downtown.

^brings me to trivia. Where was the town where the Herberger's name first appeared?
Twincitizen should know this one without looking it up.

Thanks you Bapster for that trip down memory lane. The worst part is I remember some of those old buildings and the lack of new buildings. Did you ever get pics from inside the now gone Conservatory where the US Bank Tower now stands??

Of course I did! I want to grab a few more photos to reprocess so I'll see if that film is in there too. Otherwise I will post soon!

Who takes a photo inside a mall? I do, and that's why we now have this very rare photo of the inside of the Conservatory in 1988. It was fancy to be sure. There was an FAO Schwarz.
