Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
I liked the early drawings of this building, with the "Tetris" look to the exterior. Now, the design has morphed into a more utilitarian sensibility- If we could say the building was "Brutalist" but still ugly, we could say "bravo! well done! nice example of the concept!" but utilitarian isn't an architectural concept... Now, I'm more fond of the building for it's location and the contribution it will make to a more dense, vertical N.E. Minneapolis.

If you like tetris, I wouldn't fret. Give it time.I liked the early drawings of this building, with the "Tetris" look to the exterior.

Cladding looks a lot like 4Marq...just from looking at the cam that is.

I can see the resemblance to 4Marq.

Aside from white precast (also used on 365 Nicollet), I don’t see it.
Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
Yeah I'm not seeing it either. The reason the pre cast is nice on 4 marq was because it is faceted, has a lot of depth and creates interest. This looks very 1 dimensional, but i guess it's not cement board...

I think 4Marq looks very 1960’s office building with those bevels. Flat is flat though.

This one will be called Rafter. Here's the most recent rendering.

This building, by eye, looks like it is about to be topped off...
I haven't sat and counted, but it looks like they have about three or four stories on Nord Haus-
This project went up pretty fast in my estimation- it's not distinctive in any way, but it is a massive filling of space....

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
I counted yesterday, and got 22 stories, so there should be four to go. Almost there.
I agree that it is pretty bulky to stand as alone as it does - I don't mind 365 Nicollet or the Nic on 5th so much, because they're more infill with the rest of the downtown towers close by. Too bad Nye's and Nord Haus II both got downsized.

I really like precast finish on this project.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

1. This looks topped off. This one will be called Rafter. Here's the most recent rendering. 38151845_429013270940866_925923802884341760_o.jpg
2 I never noticed it in the renderings but now I do see it in the quoted pic. The two half levels where black meets white precast there is a floor of all glass. I wonder why that decision was made. Are those amenity spaces?

This building is very visible coming up 4th Street from Dinkytown. The bend in the grid at Central/Hennepin makes it more of a 45 degree view instead of head-on, which is even more awesome.

yes, and it seems like it blocks the view of the Nord Haus building almost completely, lol. I wonder if that was intentional ?This building is very visible coming up 4th Street from Dinkytown. View from the bridge over the tracks at 5th Street NE.

Actually doesn't look as bad as I thought it would....but the blank spot where the elevators are will be terrible.
