Forum Maintenance & Technical Issues

Post by Shawn »

The forums were set so the first 3 posts for each user had to be moderated and approved before you could post freely...that should be gone now and any registered user should have the ability to post now. Let me know if this continues to be an issue.

My first post went fine, but my second gave me the "needs to be approved" message.

This one might as well, I guess...

This one seems to have went through without issue, correct? I went through earlier this morning and redid the permissions so it should be up to date with no need for moderation on any posts.

Do you guys want the quick reply option w/ the text box on the bottom of the thread, or is it better to click reply? I'm assuming quick reply?

Nope, it didn't. But this morning I got emails saying they were approved, and my posts seem to be going through just fine now.

Also-- quote tags aren't working, nor are there any quote buttons next to posts. The only way to make it work right now is to manually type the bbcode in.

And one more thing-- doesn't look like we can edit our posts either.

Yes - it does not keep me logged in either - always have to log in again -

Any option to post photos wider than about 700 pixels?? Is that a setting you can increase??

Working on the quote and edit issues.

Today it seems to be working in terms of not getting logged out every time. Anyone else still having this issue or have had it stop today?

Also, can you tell me exactly what you do to get a 700px limit? I just tried to post from a test user with the same permissions and it seemed to work.

I believe what he means is that the forum pages themselves are limited to a certain width, and thus embedded photos only have 700 horizontal pixels displayed. I'm not looking at the admin side of things, but I would guess that is a limitation of the themes we currently have. Could be a bb limitation, but I doubt that.

Thats exactly what I was referring to regarding the width of an image - it is cut off after about 700 pixels wide.

Given that this is 2012 and most people now have much larger monitors and resolutions than they did 5 years ago - some of these themes do not seem to keep up with those changes -

Thanks for looking into this.

Did it bug anyone else when people would post coffee table sized photos on the old site? I'd agree that 700 pixels is probably too small but I wouldn't want it much bigger than that.

I must say it bugged me having small-ish pictures. I would typically use imageshack to post my pictures and have to have them resized smaller, whereas on a site like Skyscarpercity, I could post pictures much larger. I've switched to Flickr, which allows me to easily post pictures in different sizes now, so that helps.

But being able to readily post pictures in sizes of up to 1024x768 would be nice, and I think other members would appreciate larger pictures.

It looks like the attachment settings are such right now that you can upload whatever size you wanted, that might have been something Shawn changed since you first asked? For both attachments as well as linked images.

That ^^ seemed to work well. Should both stretch out the screen and limit it at a certain point. How does that look for everyone else? Image shows up for me in a single screen until just after 1100px by 300px. Working on a fix for this.

I'll test with a photo, this one is 1024x768. The photo fits the screen well, but pushes my username slightly off the screen. I'd recommend setting up the screen to ~1050.
