Wow nobody saw that coming. Is this the former Northwest Airlines HQ? Still, we thankfully avoided increased greenfield development in Chanhassen and got a more central location too.

That's a heck of a head fake.

I'm still trying to figure this out...

1. Vikings were talking about moving to Chanhassen (http://www.startribune.com/possible-vik ... 311701101/)

2. Delta Sells NWA HQ to local investors (last month?!?) (http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/b ... count.html)

3. Now this... which says both the prior stories were wrong/misleading.

Strange things going on.

Possibly that Ziggy needed some land to redevelop seeing the dome area is not giving him much of any real chance to make any money for development there. He can do his Arden Hills thing and make a Vikings Theme area to draw people to the practice area and get a Hotel and a few other things that would work with the practice facilities.

Wedgeguy, I guess I do understand why. I meant to say the reporting sure has been strange that there have been conflicting info over the past month.

I would say that Ziggy was playing one against the other to either get the best deal possible, or to keep other investors/developers from knowing what tricks they had up their sleeves. You talk Chanhassen while someone else is your front man talking to Delta about finally selling the property. Do we think that Delta, if they were talking with the Vikings, would give them a bargain rate on the sale? While I think that the Eagan is a strange place for this, Eden Prairie site was just as out of the loop as this site. The amount of land that they would be acquiring would suit them nicely. Again it give Ziggy a better location for future development than I would say that Chanhassen do. With the location close to St. Paul, MPLS, MOA, and the new outlet mall that should work better for future successful projects on the site. Not to mention the roads are much better from all direction in Eagan.

Looking more likely that the Vikings are moving their HQ to Eagan.

Worth its own thread now?

Another take on the Vikings proposal. Football stadium, shops, housing, offices.

I do quite enjoy* the fact that suburban "mixed use" developments like this proposal are only really "mixed" because it encompasses enough land to give each use its own corner. Someone living on the west side and working on the east side is still probably going to drive past the Vikings part in between.

*note: only if "enjoy" == laugh sadly from afar

I would not worry about EP as they will probably come out ahead by losing the practice facility. With the location of that land Ziggy should be able to redevelop it and probably double or triple the taxes that EP can collect in the future off a new HOTEL< OFFICE COMPLEX< OR APARTMENTS or all of the above. I personally will be glad to see that over sized Morton building come down and something much better taking its place.

It's disappointing that they're considering a team museum/hall of fame type feature in Eagan rather than downtown. This also means training camp in Mankato is almost certainly going to end.

It's hard to get excited for this considering a.) it's in Eagan.....Eagan, b.) it's in 3-4 phases, and c.) it'll take 10-15 years to develop, IFF they complete all of the phases. But I suppose this is a pretty cool development altogether.

What's wrong with this being in Eagan? How is it any different than say...Eden Prairie?

It would be wrong in Eden Prairie too.

Both are suburbs, both are filled with chain restaurants, chain bars, chain big box stores, suburban houses that all look the same, and neither have character. Though Eagan is more centrally located in relation to both downtowns, so there's that I guess. But in the end, they would never be able to fit a headquarters in STP or MPLS, so it would have to be in a suburb anyways, unless they went rural.

And really, would putting a necessarily low-density use on prime land in one of the core cities really have been considered a win?
