The Dayton's Project
Re: Former Dayton's Building
I really don't understand why they didn't keep that open. I don't know about the full-service restaurant portion, but the Skyroom had to be profitable on it's own.

Re: Former Dayton's Building
Could it be the corner space on the first floor that held JB Hudson?Didn't read this whole thread so sorry if some of this has been discussed. But some more takeaways I have learned are the bottom floors are planning to be retail. 601W Properties is also currently redeveloping the Chicago Post Office.
Also, there are a few rooms that are deemed historical that are off limits for development. The Oak Room, some womens bathroom and something else which I cant for the life of me remember right now. Apparently the developer is planning on pursuing the national register.
Re: Former Dayton's Building
Hm... If the Oak Room can't be changed, that would seem to bode well for it eventually reopening as a restaurant, since what else can you do with it?

Permit on 9/1 for a $6 million selective removal. I'm assuming for asbestos abatement.

Re: Former Dayton's Building
There was a guy walking through the skyway at lunch today that was on a video call (FaceTime?) pointing out all the screw heads that can been seen on the temporary skyway walls. He seemed upset that it was sloppy.
Something has to happen soon on the skyways... right? This is right next to the IDS crystal court, which I am SURE will be highly used for the Super Bowl. Right??? Am I crazy?

Re: Former Dayton's Building
I would hope so. But then, I also hoped that the Super Bowl taking over the Sports Authority space for their volunteer HQ would lead to some sort of storefront improvement there, and it's... actually gotten a bit worse.
Aside: Am I the only person in the world on a limited data plan? I can't believe how many people I see video chatting as they walk down the street.

They appeared Sunday on streets.mn, a website focused on Twin Cities land use and transportation, and were. A public reveal of what the plans call “the Dayton’s project” is slated for later in October. >>>

Former Dayton's Building
In any event, big reminder that Streets.mn is visited by people in the media, policy, and industry fields quietly, lurking.

I've had a few drinks tonight, but did streets.mn really break this story, and did the Strib really quote posts in an article?

That's the first time I've been quoted in the paper.Beta http://www.startribune.com/website-post ... 450013543/Some grand visions. See link below for more images.

Getting back to our normal discussions. I think it would be nice if the interior paid more homage to the Daytons Department store or was somehow designed to match our, "North," branding. Basically, it'll be nice if it didn't look like MOA or a mall in Miami.

Oh dear. It appears my comment was far too subtle. Allow me to amend:noting the amount of white in the drawings
Appears to be a lot of white *people*.
Re: Former Dayton's Building
I really like the look of it... I hope they can sufficiently fill the space to keep it vital. It definitely gives me a more "minnesota modern" version of gaviidae which is kind of needed now that gaviidae has been completely sterilized.
