Oof that parking ramp is very large. Destroying neighborhood character much? I guess it's better than a sprawling lot.Bakken2016 wrote: February 15th, 2024, 5:44 pm https://www.myvillager.com/news/general ... FeJ2WIp-eA

Other than that, the hotel building looks like an early 60s design (in a bad way). Reminds me of "The Towers" condos in downtown Minneapolis on Hennepin and 1st.

Yeah, can't say I'm in love with the design and the size of the parking ramp. Is that supposed to be all for the hotel? Its footprint is almost twice as large!

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
What's really bothering me about this proposal is the extra drop off street proposed out front, making the feel from university even more car-centric. I get that there are many financing hurdles to the projects in this development, but this is pretty short-sighted and more of a suburban development in a highly dense neighborhood.

Although I agree that the additional pull-through lane isn't ideal, at least they're putting a patio/plaza thing facing the stadium on the other side. Something, anything, but surface parking though, please.

Well, looks like the multi-way boulevard drop-off was approved.
I am just curious: why couldn't the hotel just have worked with the city to expand University Ave in that location to be an extra lane wider so that it could have accommodated an on-street parking/drop-off lane? It seems like that would have been a much more urban-friendly design.

Where do you see that it was approved? I saw a couple weeks ago that the variance request for the drop off frontage was denied by the planning commission. Did it get through on appeal?

Yes, the city council approved it last week.Wezle wrote: April 15th, 2024, 8:01 am Where do you see that it was approved? I saw a couple weeks ago that the variance request for the drop off frontage was denied by the planning commission. Did it get through on appeal?

Five years in, Allianz Field parking shuttle predictions were wrong, but more can be done
Litter and speeding are still problems. On the other hand, fans are supporting local businesses within a large radius of the stadium.

Back then, the [parking] study sounded unconvincing, and in hindsight, the idea that a majority of fans would take shuttles to games was a fantasy. Anyone attending a match these days would be hard pressed to find a shuttle bus of any kind. Instead, as traffic study skeptics predicted, most people drive within a mile radius of the stadium and walk from their cars.
But the real twist to this story is that it’s not that big a deal.

Parking lot next to Allianz Field to be redeveloped as 'United Village'
United Village is more than a decade in the making.
ST PAUL, Minn. — A plan was unveiled Thursday to update the area around Allianz Field in Saint Paul.
City leaders and developers showed off their vision for the 'United Village' that's more than a decade in the making. The plan is to turn a big empty parking lot into a space with offices, a hotel and restaurants. Organizers also showed off plans for a music venue and green space.
United Village is part of the Snelling-Midway Redevelopment Site. Most recently, a sculpture of a loon called 'The Calling' was built at the corner of University and Snelling Avenue. Last summer, PK's Place, a fully inclusive playground, opened next to Allianz Field.
Construction is expected to start later this year.

I'm kind of wondering if this story was a mistake?
There are no other details anywhere, but Axios had a similar story from this time last year that makes me think someone at KARE was looking at old information?

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
They had a neighborhood open house last night, but I couldn't attend. They will be starting on the hotel and one retail/ hospitality building this year IIRC.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
Excavation is now well underway for the office building and the much of the foundations for the two one story restaurants are complete.
