Thanks for clearing up some of the ot posts. This thread should really be about the structure and not how it came to be built or financed. I am really looking forward to watching this being built from the dentist office I really should be going more often to. It has a great overhead view of the whole site! I even will try and get some pics if the glare from the glass is not to bad. :)

The first poured concrete pillars are now visible from 4th Street heading east.

That place was a dump.
One of the funniest things I ever read about the dome was someone who boarded an airplane and told the captain that if there was trouble and they were going to die in a horrible firery crash, would the captain kindly direct the plane into the Metrodome so that their deaths could bring something positive to the world?

Sometime between 7:30 and 7:45 this morning, the roof of the Dome was completely detached from the edge. There were reports on Twitter of a "boom" this morning. They must have used explosives!

I heard it in Uptown and thought at first it was thunder, as it was not a short explosion but a long rumble like thunder. Might have been timed to implode in a series around the Dome, instead of just one simultaneous explosion.

I've been casually at work building up a 3d computer model of the stadium using the available plans, elevations and sections (which are still insufficient but I'm making do). Examining this thing in detail I'm delighted how spatially complex the building is. It's still in the early stage but I thought I'd share some images.

Here's a shot of the various floor levels starting from the Events (field) level. The 4th level is the street with the main entrance at lower left. I don't think I'll go through the tedium of building the seating risers since this is meant to be primarily an exterior model.

Image

Beginning work on the exterior metal panel walls. They are all composed of "V's" that are either complete or truncated. The first shot is from the west. The large purple V in the foreground is supporting the "prow."

From the southeast. The floating gray strips above the top floor are the two large catwalks supporting the main lighting banks:

Hmm, don't know why they won't show up for you. I have them hosted at ImageShack here:

For whatever reason that doesn't load either. I'm at work, might have something to do with it. Generally if a site is blocked (for whatever reason) it gives me an error message... with these, it just won't load.

Like or hate the stadium/financing, we can all agree that's some excellent work, Avian!
