Here’s a new construction duplex. Not sure if this is a unicorn.

A block of Northeast Mpls is planning an assault on housing abundance by planning a spot amendment of Minneapolis 2040 built form along Central Ave.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
It's so frustrating that the environmental counterfactual some people think of is people living... nowhere? rather than the counterfactual of development somewhere else, in a form that would clearly be worse for the environment.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
It makes more sense when you view it through the lens of "abusing environmental review in bad faith to maintain the status quo."It's so frustrating that the environmental counterfactual some people think of is people living... nowhere? rather than the counterfactual of development somewhere else, in a form that would clearly be worse for the environment.
Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
Does this mean we can turn the tables and sue every other city in the metro for not doing an environmental review and harming the environment by not allowing MORE density?
Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
This is a hot mess and a very bad faith ruling. Where does this put all of the projects that have been approved but have not broken ground yet?

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
The council has tabled any zoning changes for the time being.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

sounds like a good idea to meDoes this mean we can turn the tables and sue every other city in the metro for not doing an environmental review and harming the environment by not allowing MORE density?
Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
The city is seeking an injunction to halt last weeks court decision over 2040.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
The CPC is receiving a report this week on the progress towards the comprehensive rezoning. Hope it keeps moving along.

Adam Platt writes in the Strib about the 2040 plan hinging on a transit system the city has zero control over.

30-minute times come in for big criticism as affecting reduced transit use. Crappy transit will just induce car use.
This is a fair criticism. The city really needs a hand at the wheel over transit in its borders if development is based on useful transit.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
Don't transit pundits say "put transit where there's density"?
Classic chicken and egg. Get the density first or get the transit service first.
Both at once is better.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
I think he forgets though that there are currently 6 METRO lines either under construction or in the planning stages in the Minneapolis boundaries. 2 of those are LRT and 4 are BRT. Plus, Metro Transit is releasing Network Now in the spring to guide system wide increases in service for the local bus routes as well. I think the opinion piece is short sighted and completely disregards all the transit expansion actually happening in Minneapolis.Adam Platt writes in the Strib about the 2040 plan hinging on a transit system the city has zero control over.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
All of that transit expansion hinges on getting enough people to operate the buses and trains, which I hope happens, but I remain concerned this will be a robbing Peter to pay Paul scenario where trunk routes/Metro lines get high frequency while other routes in the urban core, the suburbs, or both get less and less frequency.I think he forgets though that there are currently 6 METRO lines either under construction or in the planning stages in the Minneapolis boundaries. 2 of those are LRT and 4 are BRT.
