Better use of urban public lands

Barron’s had an article that governments own possibly $50 Trillion of real estate assets.

It’s not arguing to sell off public parks, but some public lands are terribly unwisely used and could be better used. It mentions the US Army Presidio base. It was sold but a trust found commercial and residential tenants whose payments fund the rest of the public park.
The Twin Cities has the TCAAP which may be the most significant local example.
The story also mentions the Hong Kong Mass Transit Rail Corp covers costs by developing around rail stations.
