I wonder how the city of Minneapolis forcing Hennepin County to shut down their incinerator and the city of Minneapolis forcing private developers to build factories with union jobs to make solar cells or windmill blades in it's place is going to work out. Or the city forcing private developers to build housing that has to be 50% affordable? Probably about the same as the city recalling Mike Freeman.

Lisa Bender is very good at her job as Council President. She both kept things together and kept things moving.

The DSA council candidates do have significant political experience with labor unions and at the state and federal level. I understand that these are quite different than municipalities, but the DSA CM's are going to be starting off very seasoned in the dynamics of legislating and negotiating power.
No disrespect intended to any of them, but can 25-year olds truly be "seasoned" at anything? At that age, you can certainly have a lot of energy and passion and education on a variety of topics, but perhaps not the variety of real world experiences and interactions that would set one up for success as a Councilmember.

All of that work comes with political allies at all levels of government. It's worth something.

When Cunningham started saying he didn't know there were signs mentioning Defunding the Police at Powderhorn park and lied and said he walked in and out via the back and never saw the letters, despite video evidence to the contrary I knew the question and a number of these seats were in jeopardy. When a leading BIPOC proponent representing one of the most BIPOC areas in the STate is lying to run away from it all that should have been a warning.

Also we need to adjust our expectations of the Council given that Question 1 passed. It simply isn't the same job anymore. (They should reduce the pay in accordance.)

Due to redistricting, this new Council will only serve a 2-year term before facing voters in 2023 using the new districts, also for 2-year terms. Frey won't be on the ballot in 2023. Then we'll be back in the 4-year cycle beginning in 2025.

Reading the amendment language from last year, it's not clear if the 2-year term thing also applies to the Park Board district seats:
Shall the Minneapolis City Charter be amended to allow ward and park district boundaries to be reestablished in a year ending in 1 and to allow the use of those new boundaries for elections in that same year; to allow ward and park district boundaries to be modified after the legislature has been redistricted to establish City precinct boundaries; to provide that an election for a Council Member office required by Minnesota law in a year ending in 2 or 3 after a redistricting shall be for a single 2-year term; and to clarify that a regular election means a regular general election?

I'm pretty certain that this only applies to the City Council, not the Park Board.

Yes, the Khan rule is only for council, which is why the charter amendment didn't reference park board. On that note, the school board has already voted to adopt the park board districts once they're set. I didn't know until now that they had the option to set different districts. So the 2022 school board seats (1, 3, 5) may already use the new districts.
