The story says they open July 15.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Once they open in July, they'll be open on Saturdays, unlike much of the retail downtown, is my read on it.

Dunn Bros is opening in the old Izakaya space in the Wasabi building at 903 Washington Ave S. Renovations look to be nearly complete.

All of the first floor retail between Nic and Hennepin is for lease. I saw them move the basketball hoop and start disassembling it in the Renaissance square retail space... That could mean something.
I would love a dunkin donuts right there in that corner by the parking lot! Since they are putting several corporate owned DDs around TC. and of course I would love to see some new home goods / clothing stores there. Bc that's a great location. Right between Nicollet mall station where it's super busy at day and Hennepin station where it's super busy at night with at the clubs n restaurants
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Has anybody ever heard any rules of thumb as to how many people it takes to support different types of retail? I'm thinking about this in terms of the added population that will be coming into town with the recent apartment boom.
Obviously, downtown is a bit of a strange animal, because in addition to residents, you've got thousands of workers and visitors. But if I went to, say, CVS or Starbucks and said that in this part of town, we're adding 10,000 new residents, would they say, for example, that this means they could support 1 new CVS and 3 new Starbucks?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
The only rule I've ever heard mentioned was that 40,000 residents is the magic number for sustainable retail, but I can't recall where it came from. Really, It's quite sad how little retail downtown has. For comparison, the MOA averages 109.5k visitors a day (40 mm a year per website / 365) while the downtown workforce is over 150K, of which just under 40k now live there full-time. Assuming 250 workdays/year that's still 37.5 mm "visitors" to downtown just from the workforce.

Wasn't this the number that the "consortium" was touting? The only rule I've ever heard mentioned was that 40,000 residents is the magic number for sustainable retail, but I can't recall where it came from.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
No not just the consortium. Its a critical mass number for further retail. I heard the story on mpr about how close downtown is to reaching it.
