Re: Uptown Hotel Discussion
those are kind words but I'm not in CARAG (was in Kenny for about 7 years recently) but am in Seattle now for a "sabbatical." And the awesome thing about CARAG, it is a passionate bunch who are willing to take action and be advocates. Even when I don't agree with everyone there, most were ...

Re: Uptown Hotel Discussion
Having worked for a developer, developers SHOULD sell their projects in Minneapolis, especially if they need variances, rezonings, or conditional use permits. While flexibility is desirable for when your project doesn't fit adopted plans exactly, it also enables a system where each project is more e...

Re: Harriet Avenue Apartments - (2900 block of Harriet/Grand
Agreed, a 3' sidewalk isn't a sidewalk. It appears there is enough space for a 5' or 6' sidewalk by removing some of the rock mulch on the north edge. Each sidewalk connection to public sidewalk also seems to be obscured as to indicate that this sidewalk is in fact private. That may be okay, but if ...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Tree lights are expensive. Uptown's convenience electrical infrastructure is in bad shape. I believe the Uptown SSD has been adding outlets to the ornamental light poles but the conduit and outlets by the trees are several decades old (maybe mid-1990s) and are mostly not working. If and when the str...

Re: Lake & Fremont Apartments (Cheapo site) - 1300 West Lake
That block of Fremont should have one-sided parking and be two way to better facilitate movement in Uptown, especially since Lagoon tends to congest. The city could make the block between Lake and Lagoon on Emerson two-sided for parking if they want to preserve a similar number of on-street commerci...

Re: Downtown East - Wells Fargo / Radisson Red / Edition Apt
^ you may want to read the complaint, as it lays out how an agreement was reached. Essentially, the Vikings group had fought the proposed WF rooftop signage since it required zoning changes and approval, but agreed to stop their appeals / opposition if WF agreed to certain signage parameters. Those ...

I heard from someone who was there that it was pretty cool, located off of a red light off of an alley, and is in the basement. That was the extent of the details.

you mean, you'd like a bridge like this , which was contemplated for Hennepin-Lake in 1964?

I sure hope that's the case. I had heard there was a possibility it was going to be filled in but then never heard anything more, so I assumed it was off the table. I believe Buzza had previously asked to create a connection to the Greenway but was denied or told it was likely to be denied by HCRRA ...

Re: 29th Street Reconstruction Project
Bell Street in Seattle's Belltown is sometimes held up as a woonerf. While it has no curbs, it does use planters to delineate driving area and sidewalks. While it is a very pleasant street to walk or bike, it has a lot of traffic and I've never seen people walking in the road section. 29th is a sorr...

Re: Buzza Lofts of Uptown
can someone post a photo? It is incredibly disappointing that it was sealed off. It was a real historical treasure and one of the only remaining examples of how an existing railroad/industrial corridor was modified to allow for the trench. It was one of the only south-side modifications that we stil...

Re: Motiv Apartments - 2320 Colfax Avenue S
I'd wager that the lack of small scale redevelopment in Minneapolis is the combination of: - economics: cost of land, cost of construction, amount of rent or sale price that results in not amazing ROIs. - codes: mix of zoning and building codes that make it hard to find good land at an affordable pr...

Start that discussion when the post office eventually moves out of their major downtown facility. What to do with that beast is going to require creativity. (I'm skeptical of whether they are worthwhile investments, for the record.)

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists
I don't like the idea of apodments / micro-units with shared kitchens. Perhaps as a type of supportive housing deal, but either way, think they should be heavily regulated. Poorly operated and I think you got some serious trouble for both residents and neighbors. Don't say that in certain urbanist g...

I couldn't agree more about the idea of upsetting the status quo that I see Hillary representing. I haven't heard substantive ideas or clear enough values from her to suggest that she won't keep the country from continuing its priority on profits for corporations. The process needs agitation and a l...
