Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.
Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.
I don't expect much at that lot.. If we see anything proposed in the upcoming future around the typical Minneapolis 25- 35 story wide boxy, it won't be spectacular and will shrink in floor count. You can bet on that. The only way we'll see another skyscraper close to 500 feet is if it has a 100+ foot pole attacked on top

Thanks for the very nice series of pictures. Interesting to think that your photos/view from the SE about a half block away (across the KA site) will only be available for about a year as the KA development fills out...

Man, I wish they'd leave the concrete exposed on that elevator shaft. It looks great that way.

I was thinking that too! Other than that, this one looks really good in the rainy weather.

The sandstone-ish stripe up the side is an odd choice...but generally I like this one, especially glass on the Portland Ave side.

Could only agree more if you replace odd with terrible. The sandstone-ish stripe up the side is an odd choice...but generally I like this one, especially glass on the Portland Ave side.
It is almost as if the designer got nervous about only using 2-3 thoughtfully composed materials...

I thought the same thing about the beige a few days ago. The south face is great with the dark color and glass, then you have the brick stuff going up the east wall. It's almost as if they bought the extra that was left over from Latitude 45, and I don't like it there either.

I can't imagine that's the finished product, right? Won't they be covering that column with some sort of fauxglass or dark metal panels?
Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.
Nope. It's in the rendering. Same thing happened with Stonebridge -- It looked way better before they added the beige.

Why would they lay brick and then cover it?I can't imagine that's the finished product, right? Won't they be covering that column with some sort of fauxglass or dark metal panels?

I know I know, I was making a statement with my faux disbelief. It's fugly.

Truth, and I love masonry details
Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.
The raw concrete was better... the building looks more industrial that I thought and the raw concrete is the right color to complement the glass and black steel.

Crane has started coming down.
