But there are reasons we can't have both: market-rate demand and speculative financing are both finite. For a city and populace with general aspirations of being a global city we should aim for both. No reason we can't have both, and there is no reason we shouldn't aim for both.
365 Nicollet (334' - 30 stories)

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I'm with EOst, height is a distraction that can cause mid-size cities similar to ours to misdiagnose their issues. Ten blocks of four-to-six-story brownstone-like apartment buildings would do much more for our city than a couple status symbols that worldwide skyscraper fans briefly talk about.
This exactly. The whole continent of Europe has multiple world class cities with city centers that top out at 6-7 floors.

Nope, the parking lot is still open for business.

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
The signs posted in the parking lot pay stations now say that the lot will be closing at 7pm Friday, and reopening on Monday with an entrance on 3rd St. only.
When you get right down to it, August and September are basically the same month anyway.

There's a blurb in The Journal's development section that says they plan to officially break ground in early October.

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
Is the second tower still happening? I'm probably well behind with information on this project...
Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
Not along with this project, but as a second phase sometime in the nebulous future.
Which is concerning, given that the twins of the Accenture tower and the Thrivent building never made it off the ground. We don't have a super good track record with this type of phased development.

Paternal Twins? I think the second tower is 36 stories and this one is 30, and they look quite different
Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I hope this one looks better in person. The rendering makes it look like the facade has cracked and fallen off in places. Like a chipped tooth.

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
The lot is all fenced off now.
Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
Does anyone think the balconies are strangely reminiscent of Studio Gang's Aqua in Chicago? There, they have horrible problems with thermal bridging because its a continuous slab. I really hope the renderings are just idealistic/representative because that would be a terrible mistake in our climate

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
Is that the most recent pitch? I feel like we've seen two proposals for the second tower - a 36 story office tower more oriented towards Marquette, and a twin of this one. Hope you're right.Paternal Twins? I think the second tower is 36 stories and this one is 30, and they look quite different

I think that's consistently what I've seen since they switched the orientation of the buildingsIs that the most recent pitch? Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I thought the office building would be considerably shorter, like 12 floors, but without a parking podium. At least that's what I remember from the original proposal.
