Demo of current U.S. Bank is projected for January.
Re: Mortenson 28-story tower / USBank site- 333 Hennepin Ave E
The new Bank got permanent power Monday 9/26. The old building should be moving during October and I assume soon after the demo will begin.
Re: Mortenson 28-story tower / USBank site- 333 Hennepin Ave E
Has the tower portion of this begun yet? Or are they still working on the smaller branch building.

Re: Mortenson 28-story tower / USBank site- 333 Hennepin Ave E
The new bank has been complete and open for a while now. The Ecuadorian Consulate and Papa John's are also gone out of the old building, which I think is some kind of Mortenson (who will be building the tower) field office at the moment. No demo activity yet, or permits pulled from the city, or official plans filed with the Planning Commission (just the CoW.)
Re: Mortenson 28-story tower / USBank site- 333 Hennepin Ave E
All rumors at this point, but I did hear from a reliable source that Mortenson is working through some air rights issues with Surdyk's and the tower crane that would inevitably be swinging over their property.

Why does Surdyk's have so much pull/notoriety in this city? Is it THAT amazing of a liquor store?

The prices are so high, they are in danger of being hit by the turning tower crane.

While I did laugh at this, I've actually found them to have some of the better prices in Minneapolis. The prices are so high, they are in danger of being hit by the turning tower crane.

Re: Mortenson 28-story tower / USBank site- 333 Hennepin Ave E
It doesn't seem unreasonable for Surdyk's to want to have recourse in case something falls off the crane and through their roof, and to know what that is before the crane is built. They're separate parcels under separate ownership.
Re: Mortenson 28-story tower / USBank site- 333 Hennepin Ave E
Yeah, I don't know if this has anything to do which Surdyk's having a lot of pull, particularly, vs them probably not having much or any experience with this type of negotiation. I can see it talking a little longer than such a negotiation would with, say, Opus, who owned the rest of the block 4Marq was being built on.
Hope they can get moving soon - about the only thing worse for the neighborhood than that USBank bunker as an active bank is the bunker sitting empty.

This I don't know. Hopefully though. I was just talking to someone with NIEBNA last night, and they said they'll have a meeting about it next week. Nordhaus is apparently out performing in terms of demand, so it's caused a little resurgence in the area. From what I know so farLess ugly too?
8,000 sq ft of retail
Podium with apartments wrapped around it
34 stories
Re: Mortenson 28-story tower / USBank site- 333 Hennepin Ave E
That's excellent! I am glad that the parking podium will have a Partman is wrapped around it. If that is indeed what ends up happening. This whole area is so exciting to see. For better or worse, we are witnessing the construction of the next uptown.

Uptown with buildings taller than 7 stories! That's excellent! I am glad that the parking podium will have a Partman is wrapped around it. If that is indeed what ends up happening. This whole area is so exciting to see. For better or worse, we are witnessing the construction of the next uptown.
