Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
Every bit of stormwater can route away from untreated pipes-into-the-river over to this is an improvement over what we have today. This excites me.
Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
There's still hope for preserving neighborhood character!

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
Hello all-
I'm surprised to see this thread so quiet as this is a once-in-a-generation development project. In any case, I wanted to let everyone know that there is a petition to support the dense, environmentally and transit-friendly development plan currently under consideration.

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
I'm late to this thread, but at the risk of repeating what might have appeared earlier, I'll put in a Hurrah! for a planned community on the site of a former airport in Austin, TX. It's beautiful, walkable, and lively:

Something like it could be a great fit for the Ford site.

Do sign this if you can, especially if you live in Saint Paul. It's good people behind it.

Ugggggggh fucking NIMBYS....What do they want if not this lovely, sustainable, ecologically sound neighborhood? Keep it a huge empty dirt pit? Fuck.
"The community, the neighbors, the taxpayers. We should be benefiting from this."
Says it all. Fuck all the other benefits this would bring to the city they just think the whole thing should first and foremost benefit people who happen to live there because "this is the neighborhood that elects mayors".

Perhaps they'll appreciate the World's Fair/Expo next door instead? It seems that often in America we believe in the freedom to make our own choices, until a neighbor makes a choice we don't like then we have all the rights and feel obliged to infringe on someone else's freedom.
Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
I also kind of want to point out that it's not really "their" neighborhoods. It's a big open space across a multi-lane boulevard from their neighborhood. A new neighborhood in the planning, really.https://www.minnpost.com/politics-polic ... ry-st-paul

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
Well I didn't have a strong feeling one way or another about the St. Paul mayoral race, but I certainly want Ward 1 to come out in droves to turn the tide to Thao now. What a repulsive sentiment."this is the neighborhood that elects mayors"
Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
Not only that, but the community and the taxpayers certainly will be benefiting from this. Property taxes from 135 acres of mid-rise buildings will be significantly higher than whatever Ford is currently paying for a wasteland.https://www.minnpost.com/politics-polic ... ry-st-paul

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
Right? I wish I lived in St. Paul just so I could go out to vote and spite these neighborhood busybodies. I mean really "We elect the mayor". Yeah you and everyone else in the city so shut up.Well I didn't have a strong feeling one way or another about the St. Paul mayoral race, but I certainly want Ward 1 to come out in droves to turn the tide to Thao now. Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
I'm half-tempted to vote for Thao (or, really, any candidate who strongly supports the current Ford plan, which I'm not 100% sure on Thao's stance on that) just out of spite. That's just crazy talk, and someone really needs to knock the NIMBYs off their high horse.Well I didn't have a strong feeling one way or another about the St. Paul mayoral race, but I certainly want Ward 1 to come out in droves to turn the tide to Thao now. It doesn't help that the meeting was at mid-morning, which pretty much rules out anyone that has an office-hours job to attend the meeting.

One group is now talking of suing the city over this. I believe this group has been discussed on here, but WTF?

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
Dai Thao disappointingly comes out against the plan.

I guess I understand there's a certain political calculus here but I'm really shaking my head at this. Really disappointed.

It's tough because he's facing Melvin Carter and Pat Harris, who didn't stick around on the city council.

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
On the MPR St. Paul Mayor debate, Dai Thao just mentioned carbucks when asked why he voted no on the Ford Site. You just can't make it up....
