Tim Pawlenty has an interesting commentary in the Strib:

While I completely disagree with his proposed solutions, I do think he's got it right with respect to what the future will bring. Lots of people have been predicting the same. But he's missing the societal shifts that will come with the technology shifts. We're going to be in a very different model than we're in now, one not dominated by scarcity. How should we organize our society around that?
Thoughts?

Re: Post-scarcity society
Even if we lived in a world where we had sci fi technology that could do anything, the kinds of people who form conservative political parties now would still want to make sure they're better off than some people.
Basically we could have Star Trek, but some would still demand on Elysium.
