Re: Ramp A
This is an unbelievably weird idea, but that rendering does look pretty good. I was expecting something very ugly, because this proposal makes no sense. I am now "skeptically in favor."
Re: Ramp A
I think it's just the kind of thing northern cities should be doing to stay vital and keep a cool image. plus it's totally private. that's awesome.
also once the metrodome is gone you know we're all going to miss looking down and seeing a big white fluffy mass.
give DEN something to be jealous about too

Re: Ramp A
The Strib had a wider-angle image in their post.
I'm curious what's going on under the orange and blue sections of that topper. The whole thing does look neat, though.

The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.
Re: Ramp A
I think it is structured more like the airport terminal roof out in Denver!
Re: Ramp A
Love it! Creative and bold. Now, the next step is to reclaim some of this ramp for housing , office, etc. similar to the concept of the Rampton proposal over by St Anthony Main.

Re: Ramp A
I'm so surprised everyone loves this look, because I really hate it and it a.) totally copies DIA, and b.) looks incredibly tacky and frankly, circus-like. I don't really want Minneapolis being regarded as "the city with the circus tent" either.
Needless-to-say I'm not a fan, but I'm fine with what's inside.
On another note: look at that sadness that is the Bryn Mawr area just West of downtown Minneapolis! I can't wait for that area to finally take off (IFF the SW Corridor can get any traction)!

That's funny I've been thinking, wow a permanent home for Cirque du Soleil, what a wonderful idea. I actually like it. It will add some whimsy too downtown.I'm so surprised everyone loves this look, because I really hate it and it a.) totally copies DIA, and b.) looks incredibly tacky and frankly, circus-like. Re: Ramp A
Now if someone would add a castle on top of the Gateway Ramp, but then again we already have City Hall.
Re: Ramp A
The design isn't incredible, but it's a lot better than what I was expecting. Add in a 5 story, glass enclosed rock climbing wall somewhere in there and I'm all for this project.
The facility isn't really unique, but it is something that has the ability to draw people in from the suburbs on the weekends, especially during the winter. A few more project like this and downtown Minneapolis could actually be an activity destination for the twin cities.

Solar garden installation is beginning soon on the A ramp. The roof just closed today for the next 3+ months.
