Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Besides the bike lanes not having bollards or some kind of protection from traffic, I really like what Richfield did with Lyndale. Hopefully Bloomington does the same between 494 and 98th Street. I know the city wants to spruce up that corridor and make it more community-oriented rather than a car sewer where people race each other to the next red light.
Also going back to the topic of 84th Street, it would be nice if they could shoehorn a trail on the west side of 84th (in between the road and the train tracks). That way there aren't any cross streets and turning traffic to worry about between Bush Lake Road and 78th Street.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
This would be amazing! I did a double take when I realized where they were planning to go
Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Not directly related, but I looked at the link and found a story about how RV sales are skyrocketing. Seems like people still want to go on vacation, but without the risk of catching coronavirus on an airplane, train, or hotel.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Does anyone know where I should report this? All they need to do is rotate the cover 90 degrees.

Even 45° would be a huge improvement.
Probably Edina public works. You could tweet at the city manager, he has seemed pretty responsive there.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
In your 2nd photo, there appears to be a metal tab on the road side of the manhole, locking it in that alignment. It is probably not possible to rotate that cover to any other alignment, poor design/install on someone's part.Does anyone know where I should report this? All they need to do is rotate the cover 90 degrees.
Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Should be at least spray painted orange or something. I'm not sure all cyclists would recognize the danger though. Could use some chicken wire.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
The PW can take a chop saw to the alignment tab and spin it.
Unsustainable fossil burning fool.

Way back when we were kids my sister did a somersault off her bike due to exactly this issue. It wasn't pretty.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
"Concerned Citizens" armed with a digging bar and a cordless angle grinder could remedy that in about a half hour. There would be noise and sparks, but if you wore orange vests and hardhats I doubt anybody would suspect it was an ad-hoc action.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I bicycled by McCauley Trail yesterday, and it looks like they rotated the manhole cover so it won't trap bicycle tires anymore. What I didn't realize before is that the alignment nub on the cover has three possible slots in the street, so they didn't have to grind anything off. They just had to use a different slot.

Wow, it’s nice when things get done quickly. Great job to the paper pushers who got actions done. we need some wins in 2020 even if they are small ones in the gutters it’s a win!

Construction has started on the Lake Marion Trail in Burnsville. This will eventually link Savage and Farmington via Burnsville and Lakeville.

Stillwater Loop Trail time lapse. Still figuring out this video editing thing and I wasn't able to render it in 4K because I haven't registered the editing software yet.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I got confused when I rode this for the first time a couple weeks ago and went down the hill in the wrong lane not realizing it's road rules with the yellow. I guess I thought that area was for the walkers. I also remember I started to read the sign, but was quickly past it. Better markings might be nice. Especially on the pavement since that's where my eyes often are when riding. (I'm maybe also spoiled by living in Mpls.)
Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Very cool—I had no idea about these paths; are they all new? I loved the quick stop at the lookout point.
