Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
I'd say nix the Co Rd. E and Cedar Ave station and instead route it down Lydia Ave and up E Country Line Rd and ad one stop at Century College. Plus that route would allow potential development just north of Silver Lake that could warrant an additional station down the line.
Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Ya those stops are pretty bad as of right now. Hopefully there is some pressure put on to add TOD there. I really do like that stop at Century College and also the FedEx Ground facility has a lot of jobs there too. Maybe it could be incorporated into the 36 BRT.I'd say nix the Co Rd. Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
The route is set. No need to have “what if” route discussions.
Even with a new mayor and council member, I don’t see any way that WBL could cut the routing to end at maplewood transit center. Especially since the County E stop is in Vadnais Heights.
My understanding is the hope is 61 will see the car lots changed over time. WBL’s 2040 plan has them identified for increased density.

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
There have been talks that White Bear Lake is going to officially pull their support of the Purple Line this month. I don't think that actually does anything though, since it doesn't require municipal consent.

What determines if a project needs municipal consent or not? There have been talks that White Bear Lake is going to officially pull their support of the Purple Line this month. I don't think that actually does anything though, since it doesn't require municipal consent.

Wouldn't be surprised to see that change this session. Also interested in WBL's opposition: didn't they just reaffirm their support a few/couple months ago?

Haha yep, but their was an election in November. The mayor who run ran on opposing it, and a city council person against it beat an incumbent who supported it. It doesn't look good.Wouldn't be surprised to see that change this session. Skewering transit projects is hot right now.State Law, and the law only requires LRT projects currently.

I think a reroute into Vadnais Heights to the Walmart would be the best, basically turn on County Road E and terminate at the shopping center area over there. That way eastside residents have better transit access to Walmart and other businesses. Basically do what we did with the Gold Line, end in Woodbury instead of Lake Elmo.
You would be surprised how many transit riders will ride a long way to get to a Walmart, especially since the only one that is transit accessible in the East Metro is the one on Robert St in West St Paul.
If WBL doesn't want it, and since Vadnais Heights still supports the project give them more route and stations.
Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Not finally having high frequency network-quality access to WBL would hurt. But maybe we could see the E 7th St aBRT-ification of route 54 happen sooner?
Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
WBL council agenda has an item for tomorrow night. “Resolution opposing the proposed Purple Line (formerly Rush Line) Bus Rapid Transit route”
More details in the packet: https://www.whitebearlake.org/sites/def ... packet.pdf
What impact could this have? Will they actually cha he the route?

A new terminus would most likely be chosen according to the Project Manager of the project, could end in Vadnais Heights instead.WBL council agenda has an item for tomorrow night. “Resolution opposing the proposed Purple Line (formerly Rush Line) Bus Rapid Transit route”

Could century college be considered? It would eliminate the jog back and forth Maplewood mall by continuing it in the same general direction and could hit FedEx ground a huge player in the local economy. As well as the equity in increased access to community college by dedicated lane bus rapid transit! It should be a goal to connect more major community colleges by aBRT when we can.A new terminus would most likely be chosen according to the Project Manager of the project, could end in Vadnais Heights instead.WBL council agenda has an item for tomorrow night. “Resolution opposing the proposed Purple Line (formerly Rush Line) Bus Rapid Transit route”

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Once again a vocal minority with misinformation gets to decide.
While we can debate all day about whether the routing into White Bear Lake is the best or if a new routing is better, the fact that this sudden turnaround can happen due to misconceptions and misinformation at a time when a project is in advanced stages doesn't bode well for having a robust transit network in the region.
Call this a slippery slope fallacy if you will, but in 2016 it was Lake Elmo saying no to the Gold Line and today White Bear Lake saying no to the Purple Line, so what's stopping Robbinsdale from pulling their support for the Blue Line Extension or Columbia Heights pulling their support for the F Line (assuming they could make that decision and block the project from making progress)?

Century College is located in White Bear Lake, so probably not. What really kills me is this quote from the city history page… White Bear Lake was built on transit accessibility.
The extension of Lake Superior and the Mississippi Railroad to White Bear Lake in 1868 turned what used to be a three hour horse and buggy ride from St. Paul into a twenty minute trip. Rail service provided new and exciting opportunities for business and industry in the area, eventually connecting to Duluth in 1871.

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Hmm. Too bad. Super silly considering how little physical impact this project would've had in WBL since there would be very little transit advantage.
In all honesty though, it's probably best that we don't waste large sums of money building transit for communities who don't want or need it, especially considering there are communities that desperately want and need it. Their loss.

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
If White Bear Lake doesn't want the Purple Line anywhere within their borders then it looks pretty difficult to find a new routing beyond Maplewood Mall. Going to Vadnais Heights would require backtracking to Highway 61, which would make the route less legible. Century College is pretty much a no-go since the main road going to it forms part of the border of White Bear Lake.
This will probably be an unpopular opinion but considering municipal consent isn't required for BRT the Met Council should just continue with the existing routing into downtown White Bear Lake. Then the residents and business owners will realize it's the not the end of the world and their "quaint" downtown isn't destroyed by a bus going through every 10 minutes. Otherwise I say just have the northern terminus be Maplewood Mall, and hopefully eventually White Bear Lake will come around to the idea and we can complete the entire routing.

Half of Century is in Mahtomedi, fwiw. But then you'd have to get Mahtomedi on board, and who knows whether they'd want it or not.Century College is located in White Bear Lake, so probably not. Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
What a sad, small-minded resolution. The bus would stop on a four-lane state highway on the fringe of their "cherished" downtown. How exactly would it negatively impact downtown businesses except by making it possible for more people to visit them? They don't say because they can't, it's entirely prejudice.WBL council agenda has an item for tomorrow night. “Resolution opposing the proposed Purple Line (formerly Rush Line) Bus Rapid Transit route”
