I don't think parking is a huge issue. The surface parking lots within walking distance only provide several thousand parking spots. Many Vikings fans park in underground lots in downtown. The perfect scenario would be new office towers closer to the dome which had adequate parking space to replace any surface parking which is eliminated. It would cost more, but I don't think anyone would not buy tickets to a game because parking would cost a few extra bucks.

Precisely. Nor will enough parking in the immediate vicinity ever be able to accomodate the influx of people seen on game days; arguments to the contrary (that we need parking near the stadium) are specious. We have decided to have the stadium in a place where land is at a premium. Hopefully the stadium's designers understand the imperative that fans arrive at that stadium by walking, biking, or riding public transportation. Otherwise the much maligned lack of development around the Metrodome (except for Huberts! they always say) is destined to repeat itself, regardless of how many consultants they hire to study the issue.

If we can sell transit as part of the "experience" of the state fair, then it shouldn't be too hard to sell a train downtown as part of the game day experience.

Kinda looses its credibility when it includes Philadelphia yet ignores Little Rock. Anyways I voted for Columbia. Minnesota has a habit of not going to far in playoffs so hopefully we'll get knocked out early.

The design builds on much that already exists, including a revamp of the existing Armory and use of the Star-Tribune building as a pedestal for a condo or apartment tower. The most striking and ambitious design element, is the massive, elevated, two-block green-space, envisioned to be constructed above an underground parking bunker.

That was by far my favorite of the finalists. It is a quite exciting and inspiring vision of that entire area. Let's take that $500MM Mayo is looking for an spend it here instead.

This plan looks great! the only gripe I have about it is that it seems like they want to turn the armory into another block E. what makes them think this time it won't fail?

My optimist side says that downtown can support a bowling alley and movie theater, but my realist side looks at the failure of Block e and says definitely not in that mall-type of format.
This could maybe work, but the residential population has to come first. If we can add 75,000 residents with disposable income city-wide and another 50,000+ increase along the Green Line, I think something like this could work, but probably not for another 15-20 years.

There's got to be a way to make a small, classy, booze-serving movie theater work downtown. I'd invest money in that today. Any business people 'round these parts?
