Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
I was just about to comment on those lines. When the IDS Tower went up, it was nearly twice as tall as the Foshay Tower. So these new buildings would have to be at least Willis Tower scale...
Even allowing for hyperbole, I'm drooling. These next few years will be a cool time to live in the cities.

In its day the IDS had an impact. That day has been long gone for decades. Lets build one over a 1000ft and be one of the half dozen cities with a thousand plus footer. We supported the IDS back in the early seventies, (which in turn benefited mpls) why not put up one a couple hundred feet taller. We're overdue. Way overdue. And lets not stop there.

Yes, 100% agreement. The time has arrived.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
If some of the new possible towers tower over the IDS (pun intended), what are the chances the commissioners will veto their construction? Some folks falsely believe the IDS building is so iconic that it should remain as the focal point of downtown and my fear is; the IDS will continue to be our tallest building.
Any inside information regarding the attitudes of the city council in terms of building higher than the IDS?

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
I would compare them with 1974 mpls. With ZERO insider information, I'd be willing to wager that at least one of the 3 or 4 mega developments that Avian and nasa35 keep referring to include a new Target HQ and iconic tower......almost a slam dunk.
Now, that being said, what is the particular obsession with >1,000 feet? Oklahoma City has a new tower that is taller than the IDS.....did that put OKC on the map? I'd argue not really.
BTW
Target tower is three years down the road.

Went by the LPM site this morning and they were pouring the 2nd floor ceiling/3 floor flooring concrete. Can't wait until they get above the parking structure and things really get moving!

Once the podium part is built, I wonder how quick each floor will go up. One every 2 weeks?Went by the LPM site this morning and they were pouring the 2nd floor ceiling/3 floor flooring concrete. Can't wait until they get above the parking structure and things really get moving!

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
I would think you would see more like 1 floor per week once they get to the main tower and get a rhythm going.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
IF I remember that last big tower, which was awhile ago. They averages about a floor and a half pre week, by the time you worked in setting the floor forms. and wall supports.

That sounds about right. The top out should be in late winter/early spring 2014.IF I remember that last big tower, which was awhile ago. They averages about a floor and a half pre week, but the time you worked in setting the floor forms. and wall supports.

Lots of commotion and construction activity today. I noticed that the main spire is starting to stick out from the parking ramp pedestal! Maybe elevator shafts? I don't think it's full width for the structure, but I have a feeling we're going to see this thing rise up and quickly!

i love this building.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Yes, no doubt this will be considered one of the best ( if not the best ) designed apartment projects going up in this current building boom. Already it is dramatically changing the dynamics of the area surrounding it in terms of its scale. This area reminds me a bit of the very cool West End neighborhood in Vancouver with its eclectic mix of building styles and sizes. For some reason , this mish mash seems to fit the Loring Park neighborhood as well. Wouldn't work in other parts of town at all.i love this building.

My only complaint is that we didn't use this deep excavation as a midway point to help construct a new bored tunnel for I-94 that cuts the dogleg Darn developers, not thinking ahead
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
it would be awesome to have the sculpture garden connected to loring park by green space. more mistakes of the 60's we deal with. and such a shame the interstate was allowed so close to the basilica.
this tower will be a beacon on the skyline. we need more like it.

Jokes aside, there wasn't any excavation. It's built at grade. My only complaint is that we didn't use this deep excavation as a midway point to help construct a new bored tunnel for I-94 that cuts the dogleg Darn developers, not thinking ahead
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
How sweet would it have been if a tower similar to this height and this much glass was proposed by the new Vikings stadium on the Star Tribune blocks? I think a city starts to look like a metropolis once towers are built off the beaten path of the core... Just my opinion.

Agreed. Perhaps if the Ryan proposal and park gets built something like that will rise on the Thrivent surface lot just south of the ArmoryHow sweet would it have been if a tower similar to this height and this much glass was proposed by the new Vikings stadium on the Star Tribune blocks?
