Re: Star Tribune Blocks
The fact that this is the peoples stadium and one of it's signature elements is a view of the skyline why would you want to put shutters in front of it?
I am also in favor of some new signature iconic buildings that are admired throughout the world. I just think these buildings would be better framing the skyline then walling it off.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Maybe this has been established in a previous post, but does anyone know who the architect is?
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Personally I'm very happy with our current "big three" and think it's more important that we focus on infill rather than on supplanting the IDS, but that's not really for this thread.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
If this turns into mindless talking about how cool tall buildings are, God help me I will turn this message board around.

^^ -1 For keeping the circular arguments in check.
Any chance the "retail component” would be something bigger like a City Target, or the REI w/climbing wall (views of the new stadium and dtwn through glass atrium as you climb )?

Could downtown really support two Targets? This isn't that far from the current downtown target.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
450 units? That's about 100 more than the magellan project and almost 200 more than the squat 222 development. The residential component is going to be massive. Very exciting. Hopefully they don't opt for a 9 story full block cube and just stick a couple juliet balconies on it and call it good enough...
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Beyond excited for the unveiling tonight of the stadium, and the details of this project tomorrow. It is like Christmas Eve for development nerds.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I don't think there is anything "off topic" about discussing how these buildings will affect the skyline view from the new Vikings stadium.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
So the skyline fanboys are opposed to expansion of the skyline because it will block skyline views from other parts of the skyline?
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
They are?
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Architect? Don't ask me, that's for sure, my Ryan contact recently told me they still didn't have a design!

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Funny you mention that.....it's my wife's birthday today and I told her that although I'm happy for your birthday I'm also kind of excited about some new developments on Minneapolis....developments: the new Vikings Stadium and Star Tribune blocks. She pretended to give a shit...Beyond excited for the unveiling tonight of the stadium, and the details of this project tomorrow. It is like Christmas Eve for development nerds.

Well then what are they "unveiling" tomorrow?Architect? Don't ask me, that's for sure, my Ryan contact recently told me they still didn't have a design!
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
very well put. that seems to be the argument hereSo the skyline fanboys are opposed to expansion of the skyline because it will block skyline views from other parts of the skyline?
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
My point is apparently my contact at Ryan sucks!Well then what are they "unveiling" tomorrow?Architect? Don't ask me, that's for sure, my Ryan contact recently told me they still didn't have a design!
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
They maybe only presenting a concept of what can be done falling into certain perameters of what they hope to build off of. Lord know we never seem to get what they first propose. Stuff like massing and green space and things like that!My point is apparently my contact at Ryan sucks!Well then what are they "unveiling" tomorrow?Architect? Don't ask me, that's for sure, my Ryan contact recently told me they still didn't have a design!
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
By this time tomorrow we should know whether Minneapolis will be trumpeting a return to significant, inspired, architectural design, to an eager audience or whether we will whisper a retreat from our global ambitions.

No pressure or anything.By this time tomorrow we should know whether Minneapolis will be trumpeting a return to significant, inspired, architectural design, to an eager audience or whether we will whisper a retreat from our global ambitions.
That's an awful lot to hang on a developer driven project for back office space for a bank that's HQ'ed 2,000 miles away.

Well, 0 for 1 so far with the Vikes. Next up, Ryan Cos. and the Star Tribune blocks.......Let's see if they can turn this thing around.By this time tomorrow we should know whether Minneapolis will be trumpeting a return to significant, inspired, architectural design, to an eager audience or whether we will whisper a retreat from our global ambitions.
