Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
So is this going to be made of concrete? Or is this just the parking portion and foundation that is always made of concrete? Otherwise its a cool apartment, its not as big and bulky as some of the other buildings we see, it fits perfectly into this little slot. I also think it's cool that it replaces an old manufacturing building, not only surface parking lots. This could start the redeveloping of certain non parking lot structures, kind of cool.

this is my favorite mixed use project going up after LPM for sure.
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
This is my favorite low rise project along with The Walkway and Brunsfield. Minnekid, I was also wondering if this would be concrete too and not stick. The residential component has so many windows it almost seems to need a concrete shell.

I still prefer 520 SE 2nd and now Third North, but this one is certainly neat!

Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
Was there ever a site plan posted from CPED/Planning Commission? I'm curious on some of the details on this one having just walked by it the other day. To that point, is there an easy way to find these submitted pdf plans on Minneapolis' website?...

Like I said if it's concrete I'll be happy. It will be a change on how things are being built and using the good aspects of 222 it could set a precedent for low rises in the area.

First floor of stick is about done. Sorry, concrete dreamers.
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
So far it is basically on the 2nd street side. Not quite sure if this is a u shaped building or what?
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
I like how much of an impact this will make from Washington (e.g. the Haute Dish side of the street), at least until the parking lots in front of it fill in.

Also this article by Opus talks a little about why they are building stick buildings for multifamily, as well as has a cool arial shot.

They've started to clad the base on this with some real nice looking stone, possibly Kasota.

It's topped out. They've even got the little tree on top and everything. That tower-like feature on the corner actually tops out at around 7 stories.

I didn't snag a picture of the tower, but heres a picture that include the great Minnesota dolomite stone work.

BIG windows!
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
Looks beautiful. If they carry that high quality throughout the remainder of the exterior it will look great. Hope they don't opt to "cheap out " on the upper levels like you see in other apartment projects.I didn't snag a picture of the tower, but heres a picture that include the great Minnesota dolomite stone work.
