Re: The Penfield
An update from today. They're starting the footings that'll be used for the steel bracing of the facade.

One of the best looking apartment projects in the Twin Cities. Lunds will really help give people living in downtown St Paul a sense of community. How close is it to the LRT?
Re: The Penfield
Four to 6 blocks depending on which station you are talking about. Will not be really close to the LTR. Will be doing a bit of walking. One of the best looking apartment projects in the Twin Cities. Re: The Penfield
There will be a stop on Cedar Street between 10th and 11th, only 1 block from the Penfield.

I'm kinda not liking the fact that the Skyway didn't stay.
Although It really doesn't connect to anything I was hoping that in the future the apartment buildings downtown would all connect. It would be pretty awesome.

Re: The Penfield
Some have suggested building a skyway from the Robert Street ramp northward to the Penfield. The link would've been intertwined with some infill development on the block where a new city park is proposed.
Personnally I'd like to see a skyway connection a little more eastward. The Block 19 parking ramp was built with a skyway connection to eventually be added to it. A link northward behind the Rossmor and then over 10th to some yet unbuilt development, then another link over to the Penfield via Robert St. That route would preserve the block south of the Penfield for the park. A skyway link at the Rossmor could probably aid getting its huge parking lot behind it redeveloped at some point as well. A little more pricey than a direct link northward. But would have more added benefit to this area of downtown.

Re: The Penfield
Is any of that building besides the facade being saved? Seems odd to take down a well built concrete and steel structure to plop up a rickety wooden one.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

developers want it gone because it makes their buildings look bad hahaIs any of that building besides the facade being saved? Seems odd to take down a well built concrete and steel structure to plop up a rickety wooden one.

Re: The Penfield
Some photos from this evening. The demolition went into full swing today. About a third of the building was brought done.

A big roof section getting dropped. You can't see in the photo, but for the last week or so they've been knocking out sections of the floors attached to the southern exterior wall. So that section is separated from the rest of the main building there now tearing down. Still there isn't much margin for error. But fun to watch unfold.

Re: The Penfield
Sorry I'm late to the "party", but are they salvaging some of the existing structure? It certainly looks like it!
Re: The Penfield
I didn't realize that they were only keeping the facade!

Re: The Penfield
I'm sure it doesn't look that good up close, but the plywood protection looks pretty cool in these pictures.
Re: The Penfield
Drove around it today, A single wall and alot of rubble in the middle that they are sorting out for reclaim.
