The 700 on Washington - (700 Washington Avenue Southeast)
Re: The 700 on Washington - (700 Washington Avenue Southeast
Looks like the two-stage left turn box is ideally situated to block anyone who might be going straight through the intersection. Usually those things are placed in a space between the crosswalk and the bike lane so they actually help the flow of traffic, not inhibit it.

Sticks are starting to go up on the second floor of this one (first floor is precast concrete). Once the wood framing starts to go up, these things tend to top out rather quickly. When complete, the south side of Washington will really have a nice building wall from Harvard to Ontario. Stadium Village, meet Stadium Town?

I love the Witch's Hat Tower peaking out over the top in that last photo.

This photo makes me think that they really should have put heated sidewalks along the south face of Washington when it was reconstructed. These sidewalks were always treacherous with snow and ice in the winter, and with the recent spate of taller development, they will never see a hint of sun in the winter. Given the number of pedestrians that move along here, it would probably be justified.

agreed. Is it close enough to u of m steam? I suppose they'd need some type of district arrangement to pay for it. Usually it's up to the individual property owners to install those types of amenities.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

Bigger question. When does Sally's open back up?

I heard a rumor that Sally's will not be coming back into the new building. The owners had a falling out, or something like that, and Sally's is finished. The new story is that a Cowboy Jack's will be going in instead, but I have no proof of that.

That would be a good college bar, but I thought the Sally's owners owned this block! That is how they guaranteed that Sally's would be back.Bigger question. When does Sally's open back up?

I bet they sold the land to the developer, and just had their return be a condition of the sale. If they decide to back out, basically nothing would happen and the developer is free to lease the space to whoever they want.

That is not a fair trade at all. Firstly, Sally's is one of a kind and local. Second, Cowboy Jacks is a terrible chain (IMO). If I were a student, alumni, or even a local who occassionally went to the U when going out I would be very upset about this potential news. Sally's is the ONLY place in that area that I've been to more than once!

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty upset about it, as a student. But we've heard a lot of rumors that didn't pan out. Hopefully this is another one.

Cherished businesses aren't always as they seem. For example, did you know Sue Jeffers used to own Stub and Herbs?
Re: The 700 on Washington - (700 Washington Avenue Southeast
I swung into the leasing office today, since I was walking past, and asked if they knew when Sally's would open back up. Unfortunately, they just said "I don't know... probably September?" Not terribly reassuring.

As a former Sally's bartender I would be sad to see Cowboy Jacks going in. It was a great place to work and enjoy a drink at. Last time I was in the area about a month ago the guys at Dairy Queen still thought is was going to be Sally's. Take that for what it's worth.
