South Nicollet-Lyndale-Kingfield-Tangletown-Windom
The north-east corner of 38th & Nicollet in Kingfield has been undergoing renovations behind papered windows for a couple months now. Yesterday the following was hung in the window: "Nighthawks" and "Coming Soon" along with an image of a cast iron frying pan. Anyone have any more details on this new restaurant?

Re: The Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)
I assume they'll have some Edward Hopper paintings. It says on the sign something about "fun with griddles" and I've been told they'll have a full liquor license. Also on the other side of Five Watt a hair salon is going in.

It will have an open griddle and counter (ala Nighthawks the painting). The apartments upstairs are being turned into offices as well. The only bummer for me is that they are taking up 3 small business spaces. Hopefully they do great, but if not and they close, we won't have 3 little spaces for small businesses, we'll have a big empty space.

ATTN: Boost Mobile store. Your days at this corner are numbered. I hope they are already searching for cheaper digs in the area.

This is turning into a nice corner. Wish the City would've improved pedestrian infrastructure with some bump outs when they reconstructed the street last year. Eh I can dream right? Is the city still "testing" bump outs?
Re: Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)
Could use some trees or something. While it's nice to see all the business activity, something about it still feels a little exposed and uninviting. Bump outs would have helped.

38th and Nicollet - the new 48th and Chicago? Sorry, but us deep southsiders had Kingfield beat!

If I'm looking for over-priced, inauthentic Mexican food, I sure know which neighborhood to go to.
Kingfield for the win.

Come on now, Pepitos is about way more than just the food
Edit: I really wish they'd go back to showing movies in the theater. Mrs.shoes and I saw a lot of great movies there, and we loved that we could get dinner from Pepitos and eat while sitting in the cushy couches in the theater.

Pepitos honestly doesn't seem too popular with the neighborhood. It seems to draw people in from outside the neighborhood more than any other place. One of the best places for Mexican south of 38th St is Dominguez, over at 50th/34th.

More even than Town Hall Tap? That place is packed every single night.
I should be clear: I don't consider Pepitos to be authentic Mexican. It's walking-distance Mexican

Re: Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)
Pepito's was only considered 'authentic Mexican' because Minnesotan's thought Chi-Chis and Esteban's was actually Mexican. In the intervening 20 years, the food scene here has evolved a bit and now it is obvious Pepito's has always been, quite frankly, bad-inauthentic Mexican food.

Inauthentic Mexican food is my favorite.

it's run by a great family and is a 40 year community treasure.

Yeah except everyone I talk to in the neighborhood either doesn't go there, or goes there simply because it's walkable (like mistershoes). It's changed quite a bit, and apparently it was a lot different before the kids took it over. I can say it is different now than it was a decade or two ago, because I remember going there as a kid.
