The Paxon - (324 First Street North)
Re: The Paxon - (324 First Street North)
I wish more developers would take that "urban industrial look" to a different level: improve upon it and interpret it in a fresh way that adds variety yet makes a building feel like it "belongs" in the Warehouse District/North Loop.

Walking by yesterday I saw that they had started putting up some dark charcoal gray metal siding that looks like shingles as an accent to the brick. It makes a great addition to the area and will help make the area more cohesive for walking. THis should fill up fairly fast with the location to the river, grocery, and restaurants.

Looks like The Paxon has a blue uplit portion on the upper beveled facade that fronts the rail tracks and 1st St. Haven't taken a pic yet.

I think anyone that lives in the neighborhood is just happy to get something here. That abandoned parking structure was awful.
Plus, walking by it at street level I don't think it looks bad at all. Good infill.

All in all it is a decent building (minus the uptown-like blue lights). I have less criticism of this building than most when it comes to exterior articulation and materials. It is good urban fabric and certainly beats the relic it replaced.

I really wish they would have gone with the lighter color scheme like this rendering. I remember thinking how beautiful I thought the building was going to be when I saw this rendering.

I kind of like the material they used. Stick built, but pretty decent on the outside. I am kind of confused on the blue lighting at night. Meanwhile, the crazy Velo, with colors all over the place, has delicate white light shining upon a blue tower cornice with nothing on it.

This design reminds me a lot of the Greenleaf on Lyndale.

It's unremarkable, but it sure is nice to have that lot filled.
